Using the A-Technic Newsreader

The charity, A-TECHNIC , has developed a program that converts our standard output files into an .HTML document that enables it to be used with browser software such as Internet Explorer.

The program runs under the Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/Vista operating systems.

It provides an alternative means of navigation of the TNAUK e-texts, and is available as a free download from their web site:- www.a-technic.net , use a program such as Internet explorer to access the web site for the download.

When downloaded it should be installed on the PC. The News Reader provides via the right mouse button send to sub menu, a menu entry - a-technic news reader. To install the news reader select the downloaded file and press ENTER. During the install process you will be asked for any permanent subjects that you wish the news reader to extract from the publication and place in an interesting articles section. To use the News Reader, highlight our .ZIP or .DOC file, right click (shift+F10 on keyboard) and select 'read using newsreader' from the drop down menu and press ENTER (or click on the entry). The same option can be found in the Sendto sub menu

A window opens that asks if you wish to create key words that you want the publication searched for, the default is NO so press ENTER to continue, and TAB and ENTER to select YES.. Between each set of key words press ENTER and when finished press TAB, this selects the OK button, press ENTER to continue. Articles that contain these key words are placed in the index entry "Interesting Articles". To bypass this function and select the default press ENTER to continue.

The file is converted and the browser starts automatically, presenting you with the index of the content of the publication. The conversion can take up to 30 seconds, before anything appears on the screen.

To navigate through the index, use the TAB key. To read an article select the index item of interest, and press ENTER. You will be taken directly to the article or sub index if it exists. To return to the index click the browser back button (BACKSPACE key or ALT+back arrow on the keyboard) alternatively select the Back to Index link at the bottom of the article and you will be returned to the highest level index.
