Commenced in 1984.
Records over 200 national newspapers and magazines on cassette
A subscription fee enables subscribers a choice of titles from a wide range of subjects.
Dispatches over 2 million tapes a year from the Heathfield headquarters.
Offers many titles in computer formats, e-mail, on disk and CD-Rom · Runs a dedicated Bulletin Board Service for subscribers.
Facilitates IT training for blind and visually impaired people.
The Talking Newspaper Association of the UK is a registered charity committed to providing equality of access to printed material for blind and visually impaired people.
Talking Newspaper Enterprises Limited (TNEL), is a company, limited by guarantee, that produces materials in alternative formats for businesses and organizations. All the profit from which is covenanted back to the charity.
TNEL produces information on tape for a diversity of organizations from Waitrose to Amnesty International and from Public Utility Companies to the National Trust.
There are over a million registered blind people in the UK and another 1.7 million with a significant visual impairment.
One person in ten will suffer a serious visual impairment at some time during their lifetime.
